The Government has announced 131 Padma Awards for the year 2026.

The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian awards in India. They are given every year in three categories. This year five personalities received the Padma Vibhushan award. Former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan was honored posthumously for his long political career and dedication to public service. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder Shibu Soren was also awarded posthumously for his efforts in social justice and tribal rights. Thirteen people were awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2026. Popular playback singer Alka Yagnik received the award for her contribution to Indian music and film industry with countless hit songs over the years. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari was honored for his work in politics and public administration. Renowned Malayalam film actor Mammootty was recognized for his outstanding acting career and influence in Indian cinema. In the Padma Shri category a total of 113 individuals were honored. Among them Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded for her achievements in sports and her role in promoting women’s cricket in India.
